Andres D. Saucedo

November 30, 1922 — November 8, 2017

Andres D. Saucedo went home to the Lord peacefully on November 8, 2017, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olibama Saucedo and youngest son, Andy C. Saucedo. He is survived by his eldest son, Hector Saucedo, daughter-in-law, Dolores Saucedo, granddaughter, Victoria A. Saucedo, and several nieces and nephews. He was a life-long resident of El Paso and a WWII hero. He was the youngest of five brothers who served in the Army at the same time. He spent five years of service with Company E, 141st Infantry, 36th Division, often billed as the only Mexican-American unit of WWII. Three of those years were fought overseas in North Africa, Naples, Rome, Southern France, and Rhineland. He served under Captain John L. Chapin and is honored at El Paso's Chapin High School rotunda along with two other brothers. He was able to save the life of one brother and rescue another from a POW camp. As a Master Sergeant, he led and trained many soldiers into battle and was well respected. Andres was shot twice during the war and received numerous commendations and awards for his distinguished service and valor during WWII. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the Euorpean-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon (4 bronze Stars), and a purple heart. His service was honored by Congressman Beto O'Rourke in 2014 with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, and he received an honorary diploma from Bowie High School. He is also recognized at a memorial near Chalio Acosta Recreation Center on Delta. He was a proud American who fought tirelessly for his country. His enduring spirit was always felt up to the last days of his life. As the saying goes when it pertains to WWII veterans, "They don't make 'em like this anymore." He will be dearly missed by his family and those who knew him. The Saucedo Family would like to extend gratitude to Gloria Leos who was the family's care-giver for 17 years. A Funeral Service will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2017 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1201 Hawkins. A Committal Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2017 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Americas.
