EL PASO, TEXAS - on November 25, 2014, Major Arthur O. Nibling passed peacefully at the Ambrosio Guillen Veterans Home in El Paso, Texas at the age of 98.
Mr. Nibling was born in Rockledge, Pennsylvania, February 22, 1916. He grew up in Foxchase, a neighborhood of Philadelphia. After college, he became an agent for the General Accident Insurance Co. It was there that he met and married Cordelia Jeanne Wholert on October 7, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Arthur is survived by his daughters Sandra Sue Hammonds of Clifton, Virginia and Nance Jeanne McLeod of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served in the army from 1942 to 1945 as an artillery officer and in army intelligence. While he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, he and his wife Jeanne fell in love with the area.
After retirement from the army reserve, he managed an ABC store in King of Prussia, PA. In 1974, Arthur and Jeanne relocated to El Paso. Art was a member of the Masons and the Rotary for the majority of his adult life. He took great pride in being the first Lifetime Member of the El Paso Zoo. Visitation: 5-8pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service: 1:00pm on Thursday, December 4, 2014 Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the El Paso Zoo in Art’s name.
