Christian M. Paxson, Senior, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 24, 2018, after a brief illness. Chris was born at Providence Hospital on October 6, 1963, the son of Kathleen Peyton and the late judge Sam M. Paxson. A lifelong El Pasoan, Chris attended Eastwood and Cathedral High Schools. While playing basketball for Cathedral, Chris suffered a knee injury that led to him spending his first visit to Europe on crutches, hobbling along the streets of Britain and Germany without complaint, glad to enjoy his trip abroad. Chris served his country in the U.S. Army, which had the West Texas native testing winter gear at Ft. Drum, New York, buffeted by lake effect snows from Lake Ontario. Returning to El Paso, Chris earned his bachelor's degree (BBA) from Park College. His career took him through the retailing, hospitality, and transportation industries. Proud to be an El Pasoan, Chris taught himself near-fluency in Spanish, with a distinctive norteno twang. His brother Kurt described Chris as the perfect designated driver in Mexico, as Chris didn't drink and he spoke Spanish. While both of Chris's brothers envied his fluency in Spanish, his brother Peyton particularly envied his full, wavy hair. Chris was known for his near photographic memory, much to the chagrin of any friend or family member who attempted to fib to him. Chris also possessed a tremendous curiosity, always willing to try new things and learn new things, and his knowledge of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants was legendary. Chris felt that one of his greatest contributions to the world was his son Christian Junior, whose service in the Special Forces has taken him to numerous hotspots in Asia and Africa. Chris leaves behind his loving wife Marisela, son Christian Junior, step children, Roger Gurrola, Paloma Alvarado, and Claudia Casey, his mother Kathleen Peyton, brothers Peyton and Kurt, niece Brooke Paxson, nephew Grant Paxson, sister-in-law Karen Muncaster, uncle David Paxson, stepmother Gloria Paxson, stepsister Yvonne Paxson, stepbrother Marc Paxson, and cherished sisters in law, brothers in law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Christian M. Paxson, Senior, will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27th, Sunset Funeral Home, 9521 N. Loop, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A chapel service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 28th, 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 9521 N. Loop. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Americas.
