Evangelina Tovar Jaime

Evangelina Tovar Jaime, 83, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend passed away July 1, 2014 in Longmont, Colorado. She was known among family and friends as “Beva”. Born in El Paso, Texas to Jose and Dionicia Tovar in the spring of 1931, she was a first generation American and proud El Pasoan. Beva was a hard-working, strong woman and sole provider for her children. She worked many years as a seamstress for both the Farah and Levi Strauss companies during the success era of factories in the El Paso area from the 1950’s thru the 1970’s. In 1969 Beva purchased a small neighborhood store, she named the “Virginia Grocery” , located on the corner of S. Virginia Street and E. 7th Street in El Paso’s Segundo Barrio. She operated the “Virginia Grocery” store for over fifteen years before moving to Brighton, Colorado to be closer to her only daughter, Berta. Beva is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Javier Jaime; brothers and sisters, Eduardo Tovar, Guadalupe Tovar Rios, Bertha Tovar Torres, Josefina Tovar and Luis Tovar. She is survived by her brother, Carlos Tovar “CT” of Los Angeles, CA; her children, Victor Manuel Jaime, Amador (Maria E.) Jaime and Berta A. (Martin) Gutierrez; grandchildren, Bertha A. Mendoza, Jaime Guadian, Adrian Lopez, Victor O. Jaime, Carlos A. Jaime, Diana Jaime, Javier Jaime, Marc A. Jaime, Velia Jaime and Elisa Jaime; 22 grandchildren and one great-great child. She will be remembered for her intelligence, incredible iron willed strength, encouragement, her stories, wisdom and advice and one AMAZING sense of humor. She was our guiding light and our source of inspiration. Until we meet again, she will live in our hearts and in our minds. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm with a vigil at 7 pm on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home-East.Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at St. Ignatius Catholic Churh. Interment will be at 11:30 am Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
