Fumiko "Miki" O. Tagami

Fumiko “ Miki” Tagami, 93, passed away on Saturday, March 14th, 2015. Fumiko was born in Osaka, Japan in 1921. The only girl among 5 brothers, her strength and tenacity earned the respect of the men in her family. At 19 years old she was charged with defending the family home alone during the WWII bombing runs on Japan. Fumiko met Chiharu Tagami, a Japanese- American Soldier, in 1948 and they were married in 1949. Fumiko arrived in the United States in 1953 and settled in El Paso in 1957. She owned and operated House of Shumi, a custom drapery and tailoring business, from 1978 until 1992. Fumiko took great pride in everything she did, and that is evident in the enduring quality of the drapes she created as well as in the character and integrity of the children and grandchildren she raised. Fumiko was preceded in death by her husband Chiharu. She will be missed by her children, JoAnn Kirkland (Brian) and William Tagami (Marnie); grandchildren, Tianna Tagami (Jason Clemence) and Todd Tagami (Leeann); and great-grandchildren, Kamia, Makyla, Kalel, Nadia, Jaxon, and Riall. She will be laid to rest with Chiharu at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
