Gavino Guerrero

October 17, 1934 — December 19, 2014

Gavino Guerrero Sr., 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 19, 2014. Rev. Gavino Guerrero Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior, and best friend Jesus Christ. Gavino Guerrero Sr. was born in Clemenceau, AZ on October 17, 1934. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a master's degree in psychology in 1984. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He arrived in El Paso, TX in 1958 with a call in his heart to preach the Gospel in Juarez, Mexico. He obeyed his calling for 43 years. During this time he suffered persecution and was jailed for preaching the Gospel publicly. Amidst many conflicts many came to know the Lord as their Savior. A church was born in the streets; from a jazz player he was called to be a pastor. Through his persecution he became a pioneer paving the way for others to preach. Not only did he preach the Gospel faithfully for 43 years, he used his education to conduct countless seminars on emotional, parental, marriage and mental needs. Many lives were rescued from divorce and abuse. He and his wife Yvonne retired after 43 years of Ministry from Templo La Hermosa in Cd. Juarez, which they founded. He served his congregation Palabra Viva in El Paso for 18 years and pastored his last church in Midland, TX for 7 years. He traveled extensively throughout Mexico, U.S., Panama and villages. He visited the Taraumara Indians and ministered to them as well while serving as the National President of Mexico in The International Foursquare Church. God used him to touch thousands of lives through his spiritual wisdom and caring. His wife established a Bible School and for 23 years trained men and women for ministry and established a women's conference in Mexico. They were also involved with the general manager of KSCE Christian Television 38 in helping bring Christian television to the El Paso community. Rev. Gavino Guerrero Sr. was loved and respected by those who knew him. Leaders of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in Mexico and the U.S., and many other denominations found him to be a man of integrity, spiritual wisdom, teacher and a caring counselor. He is survived by; his wife Yvonne, to whom he was married to for 52 years; 3 sons, Gavino Jr, Danny and Phillip; 2 daughters Rachel and Vivian; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Joe and Phil; 1 sister, Grace, numerous nephews and nieces; thousands of lives touched, who loved and respected him.
