Henry Lugo Ayon

In Memory of Henry L. Ayon October 9, 1922 - January 21, 2015 Henry L. Ayon, 92, WWII pilot and retired Army veteran, husband of Carmela P. Ayon, passed away January 21, in El Paso, Texas. He died peacefully at his home in care of his daughter, Stella Ayon, after fighting his battle with cancer. He was born in Azusa, California 1922, the son of 9 children of Cornelio Fraijo Ayon and Manuela Lugo Ayon. He is survived by his Brother, Raymond Ayon, 86, and his sister Beatrice Whittaker, 95; his 4 children, Raymond Ayon, Maria (Lena) Morrissey, Diane Ayon, and Stella Ayon; 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Henry was proud to serve in WWII in the Air Army Corp as a pilot in the 4th Fighter Group, 336th Fighter Squadron. After WWII, he served as a Sergeant in the US Army for 22 years. He retired with honors with the highest rank of a noncommissioned officer. In 1970, he and his family returned to El Paso where he became a successful entrepreneur until the 1990’s. He later volunteered at William Beaumont Army Medical Center as well as devoting his time at the Wellington Chew Senior Citizens Center here in the city. Henry was a member of LULAC, League of United Latin American Citizens, for over 50 years as a treasurer, council member of the Housing Authority, and LULAC President for Council 8 for 8 years. An example of his outstanding accomplishments as LULAC President include a project to erect a Statue for Benito Juarez at the Chamizal National Park. Henry L. Ayon was adventurous and took every opportunity to live life as fully as possible. He was a loving father and devoted husband. Please join us to celebrate his life and the contributions to his family and community. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
