Joanna M. Yarbrough

The angels came and took Joanna Mikal Yarbrough to heaven on March 22, 2014. She was born on December 29, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio during a blizzard. She was proud to be a personnel manager at Arent Fox, the second largest law firm in Washington DC, in charge of 99 people, all before the age of 30. In El Paso, she worked at Kemp Smith and Scott Hulse, as a legal secretary and paralegal for 20 years. In her later years, she enjoyed bowling and golfing with her friends at Lone Star Golf Club. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. A 23 year cancer survivor, she was always positive, enjoyed having fun, and took care of all the people she loved. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Mikal and mother, Catherine Mikal; her brother, George Hollis Mikal; and her stepdaughter, Allison Macatee. She is survived by her husband, John Yarbrough; her mother-in-law, Margaret Yarbrough; her children: Jason Yarbrough (Meagan), Jennifer Landers (Tim); her grandchildren: Sarah Landers, Samantha Landers, and Nathan Landers; nephew, Paul Hodges and his wife, Melody Hodges and their children: Grant Hodges and Jillian Hodges and her two dogs Katie and Maggie. Special thanks to Dr. Aloba, Dr. Wong and all the healthcare professionals that cared for her during her final days. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home East, located at 750 N. Carolina Dr. Graveside Service will be at 9:00 am Friday, March 28, 2014 at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
