Joe Benavides Jr., 79, of El Paso, Texas died July 2, 2018 at home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born August 29, 1938 in Fort Stockton, Texas, son of the late Joe and Macaria Benavides and older brother to the late Ismael Benavides.
He enlisted into the United States Airforce at the age of 17 and was stationed in Klamath Falls, Oregon then Reno, Nevada. He served as an air traffic controller and after his discharge he made El Paso his home in 1960. Shortly thereafter he married Alicia Benavides on November 26, 1961 who survives. He started his career at Dixon Paper Company and retired at Xpedex. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason with Lodge 1137.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia Benavides; son Joe Benavides; grandsons: Jonathan Benavides, Joshua Benavides (Jennifer); son Edward Benavides; grandsons: Phillip (Amanda) Benavides and Nicholas Benavides; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Gary Monteleone; granddaughter Michelle Monteleone; daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and Roger Brooks; granddaughters Juliana and Olivia Brooks; and son and daughter-in-law Ray and Leslie Benavides; granddaughters Isabella and Camille; great grandchildren Brandon, Colton, & Grace. Visitation 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM, Monday, July 9, 2018 at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar. Committal Service will follow at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
