Joe Monsivais passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the age of 45. A graduate of the University of Houston Law School, his legal career was spent as a public servant working as an Assistant U.S. Federal Public Defender, Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant Public Defender, Assistant District Attorney, and Assistant County Attorney for the County of El Paso. Joe was essential in the development and training of police officers in the use of cameras for interviewing victims of violence on the scene. He trained officers and attorneys all over Texas. He was Board Certified in Criminal Appellate Law and worked hard to right many wrongs through the use of legal appellate procedures. Most importantly, Joe was a sincere man with a quiet disposition, a helper, a listener, and a problem solver for his family, friends and colleagues. He had a deep passion and pride for his family. He is survived by his wife Amy, his daughters Cassandra and Madeleine, his son Thomas, his mother Estela, his father José Sr., his stepmother Diane, his siblings Carolina, Jeannette, Daniel, Sharon, Suzanne, Madeleine and Thomas’ mother, Elizabeth, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Mexico.
Visitation will be held form 5:30pm–8:00pm Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am Wedneday, May 20, 2015 at University Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Memorial Pines Cemetery.
