Katie Ann Dunn

Katie Ann Dunn, 95, beloved Mom, Grandma, and friend went to her heavenly home on 9-14-17. She was born in Kansas City, KS, to Lawrence & Ella Sieger. They moved to El Paso when Katie was 6 months old. She attended Ysleta High School. Katie married Louie Dunn in 1940. They sold fish bait on Ascarate St. with his parents. In 1960, they moved to Canutillo, TX, where they built a small home and opened another fish bait location. After Louie passed in 1987, Katie kept the bait business open until she was 82. She lived in their Canutillo home until she was 92 when she moved to Katy, TX, with Christy and Jay to be closer to family. She once said, “A house is a house; a home is what you make it,” and she made ours a happy home, a safe haven for so many. Katie had so much love to give, and she never failed to show it. Beautifully decorated birthday cakes (and her famous early-morning birthday song phone calls), our favorite meals, her little home packed full of family and friends, her laughter, her songs – everything she did was an expression of her tremendous love. Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Louie Dunn and daughter Louise Ervin Mendoza. She is survived by her daughter Christy (Jay) Stewart, grandchildren: Christie (David) Monk, Lee (Lynne) Ervin, Kellie (Scott) McDonald, Brian (Cara) Stewart, 9 great-grandchildren (Jenny, Becky, Kevin, Jeffrey, Courtney, Delaney, Jay, Lena, and Evie), 6 great-great-grandchildren (Olivia Kate, Lily, Henry, Alexa, Isabella and Joshua), many precious friends in El Paso, Canutillo and her new friends in Katy and Houston, TX. She will be deeply missed. Katie loved her flowers, but she loved her animals more – her puppies, rabbits, squirrels and birds that she loved to feed. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to Animal Rescue League of Canutillo, 7256 La Junta Dr, Canutillo, TX 79835. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 6:00PM to 7:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 480 N Resler Dr. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 23,2017 at 10:00 at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, 4900 McNutt Rd. Santa Teresa, NM
