On Friday February 7, Lorenzo Ortega Sr. passed into the company of God while among family at the age of 71. A loving husband and father, he leaves behind his wife, Irene and their two sons: Lorenzo Jr. and Gilbert, who were the loves of his life. He also leaves behind an extended family who cherished him dearly. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Susannah; parents: Francisca and Jesus Ortega; brothers: Juan and Ernesto; and sister, Antonia.
Lorenzo was a life-long El Pasoan, a graduate of Jefferson High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation and retired after 35 years. In 1968, he married Irene Carrasco and they shared 45 wonderful years together.
Lorenzo was a loving and kind man known for his playfulness and sense of humor. His family and friends consider themselves truly blessed to have had him in their lives. Heaven is fortunate to have gained such a wonderful angel.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service to begin at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with a procession leaving Sunset Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
