Margaret Alyn Brown Morton

March 15, 1931 — June 10, 2014

On June 10, 2014 Margaret Alyn Brown Morton died of exhaustion from too much laughter, numerous board positions, leadership roles in too many schools attended and raising 6 children (2 sets of twins). She was 83. We have lost a beautiful, gentle and elegant woman. Her family and her loving caregivers would not leave her side, hoping for one more piece of wisdom or giggle shared. Born March 15th, 1931 in Parral Chihuahua to Adin Allen Brown and Margaret Whitfield Hyslop Brown. Sister to Mary Jo Holik and Sonny Brown. Alyn was passionate about her family’s Mexican heritage and their experiences growing up in Parral, Chihuahua. Alyn shared her bilingual and cultural background in her professional career & her community leadership. There was no greater Mother. She guided 6 uniquely individual children with profound love and tenderness. She understood what each of us needed and guided us along our unique paths. Just a glimpse at her many accomplishments and gifts to this world, will certainly leave you wondering if this is all true. EL Paso Times named her one of El Paso’s most influential Women. Her influence will continue to touch all that knew her. Alyn will be remembered as “la traviesa”. She was unflappable. Our mother was tender, kind and gentle. She was fiercely independent, always put others first. She guided us to always do the right thing. She provided inspiring leadership of living our lives with a commitment to family and community. She leaves a legacy of tireless good works. She will still be paying it forward as she greets her loving family that have gone before her, her parents Tita and Brownie Brown, sister Mary Jo Holik and Bill Holik & her “mad scientist” companion, Dr. Don Rathbun No doubt she will have them serving on committees in no time. If her life and this history has brought a smile to your face, she would be pleased. She was laughing until the end, through that, we found comfort.
