Our beautiful, kind, and beloved mother, Marie Esquivel Hudek, 92, a long time resident of El Paso, Texas was called home by the Lord Our Savior on Saturday, May 9th, 2015. She is preceded in death by her husband Isadore Leo Hudek who died in 1963; her parents, Jesusita & Pedro Esquivel; and her two brothers: Frank and Ernest Esquivel. Survivors include her four children: Leo Hudek, Frank Hudek, Patricia Hudek Fernandez (Louie), and Sharon Hudek Nabhan (Lee); 10 grandchildren: Lee, Erika, Justin, Christopher, Shari, Luke, Lindsey, Sharon, Trisha, and Louis; and 11 great grandchildren who loved her so much.
While she was still single, she had many jobs which included working at a photography studio applying color to black and white photographs. She was an accomplished artist who painted mainly portraits. She had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother and particularily enjoyed painting images of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In the late 1960s she was commisioned to paint the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on a large Holy Bible for El Paso Historian Cleofas Calleros. She was a teachers aide at Ysleta High School for several years and later received a bachelors degree in Art Education at UTEP. She was an Art Teacher at Valley View Middle School for 10 years.
We were so abundantly blessed to have such a devoted, selfless and loving mother. She made so many sacrifices to send all of us to Our Lady of the Valley, Loretto Academy, and Jesuit High School. She was the center of our universe. Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Blessed Mother Mary please hold you in their arms and comfort you Mama, and may you rest in peace. We love you dearly, your family.
