Mie Saito Gourdine, 88, El Paso, Texas, passed away, February 12, 2015, after a 4-year breast cancer battle.
Born June 1, 1926 to the late Tamotsu and Shizue Saito, in Tokyo, Japan. She was an accountant and loved traveling.
Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 9723 and MOCA on Okinawa, she remained committed to charity causes.
Mie was an “Avon Lady” for 28 years, member of the Japanese Christian Church of Philadelphia, a league bowler and performed Japanese dance.
She is reunited with husband Jack, and survived by 6 children and 1 stepdaughter: Mie Mischeaux Nelson (Larry), Jackie Saito George (Charles, deceased), Sylvette B. Julian (Donald), Jack Mischeaux Gourdine II, Russell Tamotsu Gourdine (Teresa), Michael Gene Gourdine, and Harriet Gourdine Mayer (Owen); 7 grandchildren/step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Other survivors: Satoru Saito (Hiroko), Kaoru Hashimoto (Isao), Ichiro Baba, Seiko Baba, other cousins in Japan.
Visitation on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 12:30PM at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service to follow at 1:30PM to Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
