Modesta Cordova Hernandez, 80, lovingly known as "Tita" to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 in her home in El Paso, Texas following a 6-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born February 24, 1934 in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua to parents Sebastian and Rufina Cordova, and was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years Ricardo Hernandez, brothers Alberto and Antonio Cordova, sister Angela Carrizales, and grandson Omar Reyes. She is survived by brothers Cayetano and Andres Cordova; daughters, Estela H. Robinson (Reginald), Patricia Reyes (Rigoberto), Susana H. Morgan (Rick), and Leticia H. Amador (Hector, deceased); sons, Ricardo Hernandez (Carla) and Juan Hernandez; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Modesta was an exceptional mother and a loving "Tita Mode" to many other children, opening her home and heart to others. She dedicated her life to raising her children and caring for her family, and was a dedicated school volunteer for many years as a member of the PTA and event organizer. As an Avon Sales Representative for 10 years, she most enjoyed the opportunity that her profession afforded her to meet people, visit with friends, and help others. Her legacy is her lesson on the impact that compassion and kindness can have on someone in need, teaching by example that the course of a person's life can most be altered by an act of kindness and a loving environment. People whom she impacted as children continued to remain a part of her life throughout their lifetimes.
Those who knew her or her family are invited to join in celebrating the life of an exceptional woman.
Visitation (5:00pm to 9:00pm) and Vigil (7:00pm) on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home East. Funeral Service 9:00am on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Interment Service will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
