Myron Thomas Zerr

June 20, 1929 — April 2, 2015

Myron Thomas (Tommy) Zerr, 85, passed away on April 2, 2015 in his home. Born June 20, 1929 in Hondo, TX to Wilfred and Elsie Zerr he spent his childhood in D’Hanis, TX where he graduated from D’Hanis High School in 1947. In 1948, he joined the USAF serving as a Radio Technician and received an honorable discharge in 1952. He then pursued, and earned, his Bachelors of Business Administration in 1956 from Southwest Texas State Teachers College. Upon graduation, he began his career with Standard Oil, bringing him to El Paso, TX where he met his bride of 54 years Naomi Ruth Fields. Tommy and Ruth married on February 17, 1961 and raised three children, Allen, Ronald and Shelly. In 1967, he joined the University of Texas El Paso as an Accountant where he spent 21 years and retired in 1988. Upon retirement he enjoyed working in the yard, picking weeds at the local city park, riding his bike and talking to neighbors. When his bride, Ruth, retired they enjoyed traveling the United States in their Airstream trailer. Proceeded in death by his parents Wilfred and Elsie Zerr and brother, Larry Zerr. He is survived by his wife Naomi Ruth Zerr; children, Allen (Monika), Ronald (Alma) and Shelly (Kevin); seven grandchildren, Brooke, Jason, Ian, Jody, Matthew, Aileen and Jon and three great grandchildren, Lily, Angela and Adalyn. Memorial Service will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Inurnment will be at 10:30am Friday, April 10, 2015 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. In leiu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of El Paso in Tommy’s name.
