Orlinda A. Mares

Orlinda Anglada Mares, 92, also known as Linda, of Taos NM, passed away peacefully at her home in El Paso, TX, on December 11, 2013. She was born and lived in Cañon de Taos. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Deacon Frank J. Mares Jr.; son, Rudolph ‘Franco’ Mares; and parents, Rodolfo and Juanita Anglada. She is survived by her sister, Teodora Mondragon (Raymond); brother, Aniseto Anglada (Lillian); sister-in-law, Eleanor Costales; children: Corine Otero Reeber, Vincent Mares, Carmen Brocklehurst (Dwight ‘Brock’), and Anna Mares; and her grandchildren: Lisa Otero, Philip Ray Otero, Lea Mares, and Juan Francisco Bourke Mares. She graduated from Taos High School in 1941. During WW II she worked at the shipyards in Oakland, CA. On returning to Taos, she worked at JC Penney, where she was proud of her 50 years of service in several departments. After retirement, she and her husband were active members of St. Raphael Church in El Paso, TX , where she served as a Communion Minister. She enjoyed singing in the Carolina Senior Center Choir and playing her guitar at church and community events. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling from coast to coast, Hawaii, and throughout Mexico, Spain and Italy. There are no plans for services in El Paso, TX.
