Richard Henry Holcombe

July 14, 1932 — March 7, 2014

RICHARD HENRY HOLCOMBE July 14, 1932 – March 7, 2014 Richard (“Dick”) Henry Holcombe died at home in El Paso on March 7, 2014 at age 81 following a lengthy illness. Dick was born on July 14, 1932 to the late Dorothea and William Henry Holcombe. When Dick was a youngster, his family lived in various mining locations throughout Mexico, which provided fertile ground for childhood adventure. The family later returned to the States where he attended several local schools. He graduated from Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, TX. Dick spent four years in the U.S. Navy, later graduating from Texas Western University (now UTEP) with a B.S. in Geology. After working a few years for El Paso Natural Gas Company, he entered the business world with an entrepreneurial sprit, which he enjoyed until his recent retirement from the Carpet Pile, which he founded in 1980. Dick loved life, his family and friends. He was preceded in death by infant son Harold, daughter Teri Lynn, and grandson Jared. Dick is survived by his wife Nena, brother James and sister Mary, sons Bruce (Lori) and Lee (Stela), stepdaughter Robin (Mark) and seven beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his faithful doggie companion, Mr. Jones, whose heart is heavy. A memorial service will be held for Dick at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Homes West (480 N. Resler; El Paso 79912).
