Ruth Ann Haverstick

January 23, 1930 — July 21, 2014

Ann Haverstick, 84, passed away July 21, 2014. She was born in Boston, MA, and became an El Pasoan in 1956 after marrying Vernon Haverstick. Ann will be remembered for her faith in God, her dedication to her family and volunteerism, and her clever wit. Ann loved working in her garden and sharing plants with others to help them add color to their lives. Her patriotism was illustrated through efforts at the USO and her work in precinct elections and she was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox . Ann was a multi-million dollar producing real estate agent. Ann steadfastly helped those in most need. Organizations benefiting from her passion include: Drive-a-Meal, Christ Child Society, Blessed Sacrament PTA, Boy Scouts of America, NE YMCA, Bobby Sox Softball, Children’s Trust Fund, La Clinica Guadalupana, Trinity Lutheran School, and the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Aging. She was a founding member of the Child Crisis Center Discovery Shop and often served as secretary to organizations’ boards. Ann was very dedicated to her membership in the Northeast Fellowship and through it enjoyed enduring and deep friendships. A positive force in our lives, she instilled in her children the benefits of attaining an education and was the impetus for Vernon’s foray into volunteerism upon his retirement. Together, Ann and Vernon were recognized as the Northeast El Paso Family of the Year and one of the Model Cities El Paso Top Marriages. They received awards for service to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and ANDA and the Hidalgo Award for their contributions to the El Paso/Juarez community. Ann was preceded in death by Vernon and is survived by sons James Haverstick, Pleasant Hills, CA, and Charles Haverstick, Claremore, OK; daughters Jean Haverstick, El Paso, and Susan Haverstick, Natick, MA; 8 grandchildren: Tina Billbe (Travis), Casey Beck (Corey), Sage Snyder (Jeremy), Christyn Young (Mark), Kathryn and Luke Drinkwin II, Erika and Kara Page; and 7 Great-Grandchildren, Jericho and Lora Billbe, Allison and Parker Young, Ethan, Wyatt, and Grant Maples. We will carry in our hearts the memory of her flashing smile, generosity to others, and playfulness. Honorary pallbearers include: James Haverstick, Charles Haverstick, Luke Drinkwin II, Corey Beck, Jeremy Snyder, Mark Young, Jim Holloway, and Howard Logsdon. The family would like to express appreciation to her doctors, Hospice of El Paso, her Caring Companions nurses, and Pastor Caauwe for his devotions and hymns. Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3800 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX with brief reception following.
