Agustina Najera

August 28, 1951 — September 18, 2019

It is with insurmountable sadness and a broken heart we inform you Agustina “Tina” Najera, passed away the 18th day of September, the year of our Lord, 2019. We are confident she has received eternal life, free of pain and suffering. Services: Visitation, 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Funeral Home Americas, 9521 North Loop, with a rosary to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at La Purísima Catholic Church. Tina was born, August 28, 1951, in Magistral del Oro, Durango, Mexico. She was raised in a large family of ranchers and merchants, living a very healthy and pure childhood in rural Durango. Mom excelled in school and completed her business degree there, upon where she moved to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to begin her accounting career in the manufacturing business. As fate would have it, however, she met and married, Jose R. Najera, Jr., and soon after moved to El Paso, Texas. When her children were born, all plans of a career were discontinued. She dedicated herself to the rearing of her children and management of our home, the former most important. As we became parents in our own right, we realized the incredible sacrifice she made to set everything aside to be there exclusively for us, her husband, and later her grandchildren. We formed our own lives and families, mom regrouped and attended culinary school, specifically for pastries. She learned, practiced and taught the art of pastries, quickly earning the position of general manager and instructor where she was once a student. She made all our special occasion cakes and pastries. Though it became a business for her, she did it for love of family and friends. Nothing was more important that the smiles on faces when she revealed her delights, especially when those smiling faces were here grandchildren. She was able to meet and enjoy her six grandchildren immensely. During this time, mom dedicated herself to becoming a naturalized citizen. It was a very important moment for her, as the only member of our family not born in Texas. She was very proud to be an American, with all the rights and privileges she earned on that day. On Christmas Eve of 2014, mom endured a 7-hour surgery for ovarian cancer. She survived and recovered like the champion she has always been. Through chemotherapy and many other treatments, mom and dad made it a point to be there for their children through difficult times – changes in careers, life-changing health events with their grandchildren, and countless other moments only a mother, mother-in-law and grandmother will ever know. There is - in fact - nothing like a mother on this earth. It is the closest thing to an angel in heaven, and ours will be watching over us for eternity. We will miss her terribly, and we take comfort in the fact she has earned her eternal place. Mom, may the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your arrival and lead you to the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels receive you and … may you have eternal rest, Amen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Amalia Aguirre; and one sister, Martha Felix. Survivors, her husband of 47 years, Jose R. Najera, Jr.; children, Javier E. Najera and his wife, Idaly, Jorge L. Najera and his wife, Minerva and Monica L. Tellez and her husband, Andres; grandchildren, Itzayana, Aytana, Israel, Galilea, Ilianna and Andrea; sisters, Sr. Aurora Aguirre and Dora Aguirre; and a very large extended family.
