Alan Ogden

CW3 (Retired) Alan Ogden passed away on 01/20/2019 at age 90. His wife of 62 years, Maria J. Ogden, died two days before him on 01/18/2019, so their love story will continue in Heaven. He was also predeceased in death by his parents, Irma Taylor and John R. Ogden Sr., and sister Jo-Ann Scheitlin. He is survived by his children Alan C Ogden (Ana), Irma M. Lopez and Jo-Ann Geiselman, grandchildren Krystal N. Guenther (Darrell), Lovelia McCarthy (Ruth), Ariel Lopez, Adriel Lopez and Alyssa Lopez, brother John R. Ogden Jr., brother-in-law Manual Rivas (Connie), sister-in-law Angelina Robles (Jose), 4 nieces and 6 nephews. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties, he joined the Army in 1946 after graduating from Bayport/Blue Point High School. He served in Japan at GHQ, Tokyo (1947 - 1948), Korea in 24th Sig. Co., 24th Inf. Div. (1950 -1951), Turkey (1960) and Alaska (1965 - 1967) and several posts around the United States in Nike Ajax and Nike Hercules units, retiring in 1968 after 22 years of service. During his service, he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Japan clasp, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Distinguished Unit Emblem, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Expert Badge with Missile bar, and the Korean War Service Medal from the Korean Government. He held several positions with Metropolitan Life Insurance in El Paso and Memphis from 1968 until 1989. He retired as Office Manager of the El Paso office. During this time he earned a Fellow Life Management Institute after several years of study. Alan was a bowler for over 50 years in his military and MetLife travels to Japan, Ft. Bliss, El Paso, New England, and Memphis, TN. Through his wife, he became a member of the Bowie ‘49ers in El Paso from 1960 until his death. He served as vice- president and president for the club. He was a member of American Legion Post 58 for over 40 years. Alan also served in the Dowell Elementary School PTA from 1968 - 1970 as a vice-president and president for 1 term each. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at William Beaumont Hospital, especially Dr. Klinghardt, Dr. Purty, and Dr. Ford. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm with a Vigil/Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast 4631 Hondo Pass. A Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 am Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant. Committal Service will be at 10:00am on Wednesday January 30, 2019 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to The American Cancer Society or The Alzheimer's Association 10 Mesa Park Dr #250, El Paso, TX 79912.
