Albert J. Saucedo

May 16, 1935 — August 19, 2018

JUAN ALBERTO (Al) SAUCEDO, 83, passed away peacefully and went to his heavenly home on August 19, 2018. He was a devoted husband and father and had a strong faith, always trusting in the Lord and was a life-long member of St. Patrick Cathedral. Al was born on May 16, 1935 in El Paso, Texas to Angelo and Belen Saucedo. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Irma, and four daughters, Sandra Schaeffer (Michael), Marcella Bouldien (Gregory), Kathryn Newbill (Keith) and Cynthia Price (Jonathan). “Papi”, as he was affectionately called, also leaves ten grandchildren, Gabriel (Lesley), Nicholas, Jacob, Nathaniel and Angelee Bouldien; Nicholas Schaeffer, Adam and Madeline Newbill; and Jackson and Natalie Price and two great grand-daughters, Emerson and Peyton (due December 2018) Bouldien. Al is also survived his brother, Hector Saucedo (Lucy), and two sisters, Loretta Knight (Timothy), and Rebecca Sanchez (Daniel) as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends, including Juanita Miranda, long-time family friend, whom he considered part of his family. He was preceded in death by parents Angelo and Belen Saucedo, sisters Evangeline Luceri, Carmen Job, Estela Gonzalez, and Herminia Lizarraga. Al attended St. Patrick Parochial School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1953 where he played on the Varsity Basketball team. He attended Texas Western College then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. He was enrolled in ROTC and was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Al met the love of his life, Irma Martinez, in Pharmacy School and they married on February 13, 1960. He proudly served his country in the US Army and was discharged as First Lieutenant in 1968. He began his pharmacy career at Gunning Casteel in 1960 and spent 27 years at R.E. Thomason General Hospital prior to retirement. His strong work ethic was learned at a young age and is attributed to working for his father at his father’s Coney Island Restaurant in downtown El Paso. Al was a compassionate, caring, and loving man with a playful sense of humor, and he always had a twinkle in his eye. He had a passion for music and loved to dance. He was an enthusiastic University of Texas Longhorn football fan and also loved cheering for his New York Yankee baseball team. Al will be greatly missed but we know that he is now in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. The Saucedo family would like to extend their gratitude to Al’s caregivers over the past year: Rita and Ruben Schaeffer and Rachel Barraza for their spiritual and day-to-day encouragement and support and the staff at Monte Vista Nursing Home for their attentiveness, compassion, and loving care. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 5:00PM to 9:00PM, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N. Mesa St. at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Michael Schaeffer, Gregory Bouldien, Keith Newbill, Johnathan Price, Gabriel Bouldien, Nicholas Bouldien, Jackson Price and Adam Newbill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Cathedral. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home West, 480 N. Resler Drive.
