Albert James Schwartz

November 28, 1919 — March 21, 2014

Albert James Schwartz, born in El Paso, Texas, November 28, 1919 passed away March 21, 2014. He attended the El Paso Public Schools, and graduated from UT Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Business (1940). Immediately following graduation he was employed by The Popular, his family's department store where he stayed until his retirement. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army. While serving in the European Theatre-Germany, he attained rank of Captain of the 104th Infantry Timberwolf Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Upon his return in 1946, he was actively engaged in numerous community foundations and boards of directors, where he served unselfishly as an officer and/or member. In 1941 he married his college sweetheart, Adele Louise Fridner, of Galveston, Texas who predeceased him in 1979. Survivors are his children: Maurice Albert Schwartz (Teresa), Nancy Adele Schwartz, James Fridner Schwartz; his grand children Alisa, Aaron, Shala (Ben Dverin), Jerami (Nir Peled), Adam (Joe Winter), Chavah and Chanah; and 3 great-grandchildren: Emma Karen, Leo David and Eden Adele. His life was one of devotion to family, community and service. Albert always had a smile, a twinkle in his eye and time to listen. Graveside service will be held at Temple Mt. Sinai Cemetery Monday, March 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity. The Schwartz family is deeply grateful to Blanca, Carmen, Kathleen, Maggie ,Maria, Martha and Raymond. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home West.
