Alicia G. Barrera

Alicia Gutierrez Barrera, “Goody”, 80, passed away February 19, 2015. She was born August 20, 1934 in El Paso, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Matias and Alicia Gutierrez. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Richard H. Barrera; and her children: Richard M. Barrera (Lourda), Yoliette Fournier (Humberto), Steven Barrera (Georgina), and Melissa Fournier (Omar). She was also a proud grandmother to her 8 adoring grandchildren: Jessica Barrera, Steven M. Barrera, Felicia Fournier, Jacqueline Fournier, Diego Fournier, Marco Barrera, Sofia Fournier, and Joseph Cobos of Mansfield, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Fernando Gutierrez. Goody was a graduate of Bowie High School where she participated in tennis and cheerleading. She worked as a civil servant at Ft. Bliss for 30 years, serving the country that she loved. She was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy and New York Yankee fan, and avid sports enthusiast. With her husband, she traveled to many places and experienced many adventures with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted follower of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and a devoted parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. The family would like to thank Gloria Yanez, a dear friend and Eucharistic Minister who provided fellowship and spiritual support. Special thanks to her caregivers, Josefina and Diana. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the friendship, kindness and compassion you shared with our mother. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2015 with Rosary/Vigil to begin at 7:00 p.m., at Sunset Funeral Home East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
