Arlie L. Nass

June 7, 1929 — April 10, 2021

Arlie LaVerne Nass, 91, went home to join the Lord on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Arlie was born in Hettinger, ND, (Teepee Butte Township) on June 7, 1929. He left school in ninth grade to work on the family farm. In 1951, he joined the United States Army and proudly served for three years. Following an honorable discharge, he worked at a dairy farm in Dickinson, ND, then moved on to Farmers Union Gas, in Regent, ND. It was there he began dating the love of his life, Cornelia (Corrie) Jacobs. They soon ran away to El Paso, TX, where they married in 1956. In February of that year Arlie began a 25-year career with the El Paso Fire Department. All the while, due to his natural skills, he built a second career doing construction projects – primarily concrete, building, and woodwork. He retired as Captain at Fire Station #23 in 1981. All his life, he was the go-to handyman for many friends and neighbors. At home, Arlie was a natural at playing the accordion and mandolin, and loved to dance. He could be found many a Saturday night stepping out with his bride at Tom Bell’s club. For many years he and Corrie were members of the Loyal Order of Moose, where he did much skilled work for the local chapter. He had an amazing talent for woodworking, and constructed many small, clever wooden creations … all of which he gave away to family and friends. Arlie was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred Nass, and his siblings, Georgine Wolff and Dale Nass. He is survived by his sister, Eileen Kroll, and leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Cornelia, and his children, Shelly Bohren, Steven Nass and Charles Nass. Arlie was truly one in a million, with a heart of gold and a sense of humor like no one else. He will be remembered fondly by all who were blessed to know him. His services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 2:00pm, and will include honors from the El Paso Fire Department. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 3:00pm on the same day. Private burial will be held Thursday morning at Ft Bliss National Cemetery and will include El Paso Fire Department and military honors.
