Camerino Santiago

August 21, 1953 — January 11, 2021

DETECTIVE CAMERINO SANTIAGO “CAMI” was called up to heaven on January 11, 2021. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, friend and recent grandfather. Camerino was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, a city which he dearly loved. He graduated from Bel Air High School in 1971 and went on to acquire his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice at The University of Texas at El Paso. Camerino was a dedicated husband and father who made sure that his family had everything they ever needed and more. His daughters’ fondest memories include him running for the candy released by the piñata because they were too afraid to go themselves. He was always planning the family’s next vacation which eventually led to the grandest of all; a 23 day European Tour in 2016. Camerino began his career with the El Paso Police Department in May of 1997. Throughout his 23 year career he dedicated himself wholly to protecting and serving his community. He never felt that being a Police Officer was ‘work’, but his calling. He began as a patrol officer at the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center where he served for 15 years before accepting a transfer to the EPPD Fusion Center in 2012. In October of 2012 he was promoted to Detective while still serving at the Fusion Center where he was recognized in 2017 for his years of commitment and dedication of service. He then accepted a position with the Internal Affairs Division where he remained for the rest of his career. His heart of gold will always be remembered by his loved ones, coworkers, and community. Camerino was preceded in death by his parents Jose & Micaela Santiago, his brothers Jose Santiago and Joaquin Santiago and his sisters Maria Santiago and Guillermina Moreno. He is survived by his loving wife Jessica Santiago, his beloved daughters Stephanie Montes (Andre) and Catherine Santiago, his precious granddaughter Sophie A. Montes and his twin brother Jose H. Santiago (Ulises). A visitation will be held at 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 5 p.m., Monday, January 18, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 North Loop Drive.
