Dannette Charlotte Alford passed away Friday morning November 10, 2017, with family by her side, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Dannette was born January 14, 1959 in EI Paso, Texas, the youngest of four children from the union of Chester A. and Victoria C. Alford.
Through the guidance of her loving parents, Dannette accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age. Those teachings were instrumental in Dannette showing true love and devotion to her parents during their time of illness. Dannette and her parents were members of Mount Zion Baptist Church, attending regularly until their health failed them.
Dannette's interest in track was discovered at an early age while participating for the Sun Queen's Track Club, led by Coach Benny Brooks. He would be influential in her future love for the sport. While attending Burges High School under the guidance of Coach Jane McCutcheon, Dannette would experience her greatest accomplishment. She set the state record in the 80-yard low hurdles. This record would never be broken and helped her to earn a track scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso.
Her favorite teams were the Golden State Warriors, the Dallas Cowboys, in addition; the color purple and eating steak and shrimp. She truly enjoyed listening to old school music and shopping for jewelry. But her greatest love was simply family and being with mom and dad while taking care of them.
Dannette is survived by her parents Chester and Victoria Alford, sister Brenda Vanley and brother-in-law Lawrence, brother Chester "Buncy" Alford and sister-in-law Margret and sister Avis May and brother-in-law Kelvin (Kansas City, MO), a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close family friends. Dannette faced many challenges in life, but was able to remain strong knowing that she was truly loved.
