David “Dave” Avelar of El Paso, Texas passed away November 3, 2021 at the age of 68. He was born on May 29, 1953 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. David joined the United States Army on June 29, 1973 during the Vietnam Era. He obtained the rank of SSG and received the following achievements: Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal 6th AWD, National Defense Service Medal 2nd AWD, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w/num 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon w/num 3, Expert Marksmanship Badge Rifle, M-16 and an Honorable Discharge after 20 years of service. David was very proud of his kids and all his grandchildren. He loved spending time with the grand kids whether it be watching cartoons or playing dinosaurs or having a tea party. He often watched action movies or old westerns and loved eating tacos, ramen noodles and the McRib, all doused in Tabasco. He loved his 1970 Chevelle SS and enjoyed working on old cars and fixing things around the house. He was a true handy man. David loved to travel and throughout his life has been to many countries and seen many things. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be truly missed by many. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, with Rosary at 6:00 PM, on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast.
