GRACE T. SHIOJI passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born in Santa Monica, CA and grew up in the San Joaquin Valley town of Sanger. Three of her elementary school years were spent in a World War II Internment Camp in Poston, Arizona. She graduated from Sanger Union High School.
She is predeceased by her parents Tamigoro and Hanaye Nakayama, and husband of 60 years, Frank Y. Shioji who brought her to El Paso, Texas where they began their family. The majority of her years were spent as a homemaker but she also worked in the electronic manufacturing industry. Grace enjoyed having a backyard garden where she provided her family and friends with fresh vegetables, and in retirement, she enjoyed spending time at the Polly Harris senior center in painting classes.
She is survived by her sons: Alan Shioji and wife, Sheryl of El Paso, Glenn Shioji of El Paso and Lane Shioji of Alexandria, VA, and daughter, Sandy and husband, Dr. John Arey of Charlotte, NC. Her grandchildren: Megan Shioji Jaramillo and husband, Luis, Jill Shioji and Sarah Shioji all of El Paso, Jordan Arey of Brooklyn, NY, Jackson Arey and Carter Arey Natarajan of Charlotte, NC, and Curt Arey of Atlanta, GA, and her precious great granddaughter, Madilynn.
A graveside service will be held at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 10 am on Thursday, January 17, 2019. The family is appreciative of the care of Hospice El Paso.
