Guadalupe Chaparro

March 24, 1915 — January 9, 2014

Guadalupe (Lupe) Chaparro passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2014, shy of her 99th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Raul Chaparro, son Frank Salazar Sr., Brother Frank Chavez, son-in-law Sigurd Rosen. She is survived by her children Ray Salazar (Dolores), former Mayor of El Paso, Olga Rosen, Alice Watson, sister-in-law Merle Chavez, cousin Ruben Schaeffer Sr., and daughter-in-law Margaret Salazar. Her surviving grandchildren include, Michael (Sheryl), Mark (Laura), Matthew, and Martin Salazar (Eslinda), Debra Kosich, Susan Bullard (Ted), Linda King (Russell), Julie Rosen Kallman (Jerry), Dr. Andy Rosen (Teri), Patricia Albertson (Blair) Frank Salazar Jr. and Leo B. Garcia. Great grandchildren include: Eric and Madison Salazar, Jennifer Bobst, Joshua and Rachel Kallman, Brenden, Alek, Joel & Lauryn Rosen, Kalie Vincent, Corey and Ryan Salazar, Sydney and Taylor Maresca. Lupe was a devoted and caring mother, who put the needs of her children first and foremost. During the Great Depression and WWII she was a single mother, who was strong, independent, and perpetually optimistic. These life values were admired and passed on to all of her children. Lupe worked over 30 years at the original downtown Popular Department Store. She later co-managed The Broadway and Rosen’s Store for Men. Lupe was a people person, an ‘ambassador of kindness’, with friends in all walks of life. She was a cook extraordinaire, and looked forward to having family and friends over for the holidays. Lupe loved classical music, fine arts, ballet and reading. Yet her most notable gift was the love she shared with every family member. All generations of family loved to spend time with their beloved Nana. In fact, she later developed an extension of that name, Nana the Great! Special thanks to Envision Hospice, Dr. Muneer Assi, Blanca and Dania Sapien of Home Sweet Home, and Lupe’s personal friend and care giver Basie who treated Nana like a queen. Services for Mrs. Chaparro will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 930 E. Redd Rd. at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Inurnment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
