Irene Ortega

February 9, 1948 — December 25, 2021

Irene S. Ortega 73, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed peacefully on December 25, 2021. She was surrounded by her family and she ended her journey here to return to her heavenly father. Born to Dora Chacon, she was raised in Smelter Town and Buena Vista, where she was known as “Macaroni.” She later lived in Borderland, and attended Canutillo Schools. She is survived by her most precious treasures; her children Rachel (Louie), Lydia (Chris), Jimmy and her beloved grandchildren Justus, Alicia, and Smith. She is reunited with her parents. She leaves behind Raul, her four sisters, Martha, Celia, Christina, Carolina, and three brothers Rudy, Robert, and Joe. She loved children, and served the Lord Jesus in service to them, in various housing complexes; taught Sunday school, awana and worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was a devoted mother who loved God, and her country. Told she was terminal when diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; she was blessed with more years than expected. Throughout the struggle, her faith in a loving, faithful God never wavered. The shortness of breath only gave her a more thankful heart for each day she was given here. Ultimately, God took her to be with him. Her loved ones thank her caring loving Dr. from Dallas, John E. Fitzgerald who took wonderful care of her. Dr. A Cohen, who diagnosed her illness; Dr. M. Alnajarr, her kind, and caring physician, Dr. Jerry Miller, who was also wonderful. Thanks to Lincare, Virginia, Hector, K-mart, Rachel, CVS and Kipps. May your kindness be rewarded. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, with Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00AM at Sunset Funeral Home-West.
