Jesus A. Ortiz

May 3, 1928 — November 22, 2021

Jesus Armendariz Ortiz, "Chuy," passed peacefully on November 22, 2021. Chuy was 93 years old. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Chuy is survived by his loving wife, Petra Hinojos, of 68 years. His six children are Jose (Cathy), Gilbert (Carmen), Doris Ontiveros (Robert), Nancy Martinez, Jesus (Susie), and Yolanda Gonzales (Frank), his eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Otay, California to Espedito Ortiz and Herminia Armendariz de Ortiz, he was the oldest of 12 siblings: brothers Cruz, Victor, José Miguel, and sisters Socorro, Hortencia, and Antonia. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Enrique, sisters Amalia, María, Aurora, Herminia, and grandchild Gilbert Jr. Chuy cherished family and was determined to provide opportunities for his children. He developed a strong work ethic growing up on the family ranch in Mexico. He earnestly passed that tenacity on to his children, whom each have made their mark in their chosen careers, of which he was very proud. Chuy was a Safeway Inc. employee and retired after 32 years of dedicated service. Family tradition was his heart, as he eagerly looked forward to being together to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and the casual impromptu get-together. He took joy in spending time on the ranch in Chaparral, NM, tending to his dogs, horses, sheep, goats, hogs, and pigeons. He could be found strumming his guitar and singing a ballad many a weekend. He would occasionally prepare a hog and fry up fresh chicharrones, which would bring many family members to the ranch. Chuy always enjoyed a good meal and having a sweet tooth; he never passed up an offering of dessert! Chuy was a faithful man who was grateful to his Lord and Savior for the abundant blessings bestowed on him. He will be immeasurably missed but will always remain in heartfelt memories. In memory, flowers can be sent to Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX, where services will be entrusted, or a tribute gift can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Chuy's name.
