Joe Granado Wilcox passed away May 14, 2019 in West Columbia SC. He was born in Marfa, Texas on March 30, 1926 to Charles and Rosa (Granado) Wilcox. Joe joined the Army when he was just 18 years old and became a General's driver when he was shipped overseas during World War II. Upon discharge he had achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. He also received a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal. Army Medal of Occupation as well as rifle sharpshooter award.
Joe worked for Shell Oil Company for many years as a welder/mechanic. He traveled and lived all over the United States with Shell. He moved to Michigan in the early 90's and was there until 2008 when he relocated to South Carolina.
Joe loved animals, horseback riding, and going to the coffee shop with friends.
Left to mourn his passing are JoAnn Carr his best friend and companion for 30 years, daughters Nancy, Catherine, Shirley and Tish, one sister, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved "fur babies".
Rosary will be at 1:00 PM, Mass will follow at 2:00 PM CST, Wednesday, May 22 2019, at St. Mary's Catholic Church 211 W. San Antonio, Marfa, Texas. Graveside Service will follow at 3:00 PM CST at Cementerio De La Merced, 211 W San Antonio, Marfa, TX 79843.
Joe's final thoughts were of his late brother Frank and how he always wanted to be with him. Special thanks to Charles's daughter Lyra Duran of El Paso Texas for allowing this to be Joe's final resting place.
