John Joe Powers

John Joe Powers peacefully left to be with our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021. Joe was born on Aug. 19, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas. He attended Jefferson High School and then served his country in the United States Army. He married Yolanda Prieto in June of 1957. Joe worked in the machinery business for over 45 years, always taking pride in the work that he did. He was a lifelong car enthusiast who loved working with his hands. Joe was known for always taking great pride in caring for his cars, his home, and most of all, his family. He is preceded in death by his wife; Yolanda Powers, son; Frank Powers, and grandson; Frank Andrew Powers. He leaves behind his sons; John, Albert, Raymond, and Charles Powers, daughter; Elizabeth Powers, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. His sense of humor and playful attitude brought such joy to anyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. He will be missed dearly every day. The Powers family would like to give a special thank you to all of his doctors and nurses at The El Paso VA Healthcare System and to his loving care givers, Carol James and Marylou Casas. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm with a Rosary at 6pm, Monday, Nov. 29, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 10970 Bywood St. Interment will follow at 1:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
