DR. JOSE D. ALVA passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the age of 77. Dr. Alva was an amazing, humble, and compassionate man who not only proudly served his patients through his practice on a daily basis, but also his country as a Lt. Colonel in the Medical Corps during Desert Storm. As a Pediatrician and Neonatologist, Dr. Alva was instrumental in the creation and subsequent success of the Neonatology Unit at R.E. Thomason Hospital, as well as the recipient of the Patients Choice Award for 2014-2015, and Compassionate Doctor Recognition for 2015. Dr. Alva loved his country, and selflessly served his patients and the community of El Paso for over 47 years, and will be dearly missed by his family and the community he served. He is survived by his loving wife Concepcion Soto Alva, his children; Connie Alva and husband Roberto Barron, Adriana Pace and husband Tracy Pace, Jose Alva and wife Leticia Alva, Jorge Alva and wife Melissa Falls, Demetrio Alva and wife Margarita Alva, his brothers Emiliano Alva and Juan Alva, and by nine loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to doctors Stanley Wagner, Oscar Aguilar, Jose Ayala, Alfonso Chavez, Hector Maldonado, and the gracious and caring staff at Sierra Medical Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 5:00PM to 9:00PM, with Holy Rosary at 7:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Rite of the Christian Mass will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 11:30AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery.
