Joseph Wayne Resler

JOSEPH WAYNE RESLER “WAYNE” had a varied, full life. He was born March 6, 1926, in Akron, CO, son of Nona and Dale Resler, and moved to El Paso as a toddler. After graduating from El Paso High School, he served in the Army CBI (China Burma Indian Theater) and was sent to India. They had to work with Gurkhas, to recover those who didn’t make it over The Hump. In his college years, he worked for Carlsbad Cavern Coaches and Grayline Sightseeing, both owned by his father. He drove a tour bus to the caverns and over to Juarez. He was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and graduated from Texas Western College (later known as UTEP). Wayne was a Shriner and a member of the Rotary Club. He worked on many floats for the Sun Bowl Parade! He always loved motors, trucks, “hot rods”, and later he added speed boats to the list. One time after a heavy rain, the news filmed him water skiing down Missouri St. near his business. He owned El Paso Truck Leasing, El Paso Boat and Motor, and El Paso Welding Supply. He dreamed of being a rancher and loved The Big Sky of Montana. His dream came true except that the ranch was in Eagle Pass, Texas where he lived for many years, and was a regular at Mary’s Café in Quemado. Always a lover of dogs and cats, he added another love, his huge palomino horse. Eventually, he came back to El Paso. Wayne enjoyed construction and was constantly remodeling his house. He also knew about all the remodeling work being done in the neighborhood. He’d get in his golf cart and go talk to the guys and get the scoop! Some men simplify their love lives by calling all women “Hon”, but Wayne just married women named “Patricia”. Clara Resler’s mother nicknamed them Pat 1 and Pat 2. The first Patricia, mother of his three children, stayed a life-long friend. The second Patricia, a family friend for years, became his wife, was lovingly by his side in his latter years, and his now his surviving widow. The family has been beautifully unique in that all remained friends, and spent holidays and family dinners together. Wayne was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie Resler Karlsrud and his brother- in-law Quentin Karlsrud. Wayne is survived by his children Pam George (Steve), Wayne Resler Jr. (Clara), Colleen Sheridan, his 6 grandchildren; Stephen and Brittany Sheridan, Amanda, Cody and Zachary Resler (Roxana), Chris Hunt, his great-grandchildren; Trey, Jack and Margaux Hunt, Liam and Emily Resler, step-children Carol Sycks (Cary), Cynthia Corman and John Corman. His laughter, smile, the freckled face red head with the twinkling blue eyes is missed by all who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home-West, with Rev. Scott Meador. Reception will follow immediately and Inurnment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 2:00PM with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in honor of Wayne to: Trinity United Methodist Church, Boys Scouts or a charity of your choice.
