Kiyoko A. Martinez

Kiyoko Arai Martinez , (Kay) age 86 of El Paso, Texas passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019. She is predeceased by her parents, Shegizu Arai and Moyo Nakamura of Japan and her late husband of 66 years, Manuel, (Marty) Martinez of Cudahy, California . Kiyoko was steadfast and loyal in supporting her spouse, CW4 Manuel Martinez, raising 3 children while he defended our country and was assigned to numerous unaccompanied overseas assignments. Kay volunteered for many organizations on post throughout the world to support the Army Community. Kay was very active in the Officers Wife’s Club, Bridge Club, Thrift Shop and Ft Bliss Museum but her love came to be the International Military Family Host Program at Ft Bliss that represented over 20 different countries. Kay put her all into the international community at Ft Bliss to make them feel welcome to America, El Paso and Ft Bliss. Kay was a wonderful teacher of American culture and customs. Most importantly Kay and Marty made many friends for life through the 30 plus years of hosting Foreign Students and their families. Her generosity and hospitality was acknowledged over and over by many and she was the true "American Ambassador" Kay is survived by her son Thomas, two daughters, Karen and Kathy and three grandchildren. The family wishes a heartfelt thank you to all who cared for her during her last days. For those who have known Kay in her fruitful journey with us, her Visitation will begin at 11:00am with a Funeral Service at 12:30pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service will follow at 1:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. and immediately after a gathering at 4601 Hondo Pass. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.
