Lawrence E. Mattingly

Friar Lawrence Mattingly, OFM Conv. died January 14, 2015 in El Paso, Texas. He was born May 13, 1938 in Lebanon, Kentucky, to George and Mary (Spalding) Mattingly. He professed Simple Vows as a Conventual Franciscan Friar on July 21, 1957, and Solemn Vows on July 23, 1960 in Carey, Ohio. He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1964 in Rome, Italy. Fr. Larry was a pastor in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, and most recently served at Our Lady of the Valley and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in El Paso, Texas. He was also a missionary in Central America where he served in leadership roles. Fr. Larry was the Provincial of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation, based at Mount St. Francis, Indiana, from 1972 to 1982 and exhibited great vision, leadership, and compassion. On Friday January 16, visitation at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in El Paso will be from 4 to 9 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 5 pm, Office of the Dead at 5:30 and the Wake Service at 7. On Saturday January 17, Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 am at the Church, followed by a reception in the parish hall. There will be a second Wake Service on Monday, January 19 at 7 pm in the Chapel at Mount St. Francis. The Mass of Christian Burial will be in the Chapel on Tuesday, January 20 at 11 am followed by interment in the Friars’ cemetery. There will be a luncheon afterward.
