Luz E. Espalin

February 21, 1957 — September 12, 2020

Luz Elena Espalin obituary God called upon his daughter Luz E. Espalin to his kingdom in heaven on September 12, 2020, at 63 years of age. After immigrating to the United States from Mexico she was married to and had two wonderful children with David Espalin, who preceded her in death after 5 years of marriage. Thereafter she met and married her loving husband Jose Luis Castillo with whom she had two beautiful children. She lived most of her life in Sunland Park, NM where she and her husband made a life and raised their kids. Her caring nature and desire to help others made it easy to serve her community through the occasional volunteer work at voting polls and helping children in need, both in Sunland Park and Juarez, through donations of school supplies and clothing. Her devotion to the Catholic religion was demonstrated through her willingness to help youth in their Catechism and Confirmation classes. Her passion in life was her career as a teacher’s assistant at Gadsden Independent School District for 18 wonderful years leading to a much-celebrated early retirement. She touched many people’s lives including her coworkers through her compassion and appreciated advise. Her patience and loving nature had a profound impact on the education of hundreds of students, who rewarded her with deep affection. Preceded in death by her son Jose Luis Castillo Jr. She will be greatly missed by her husband Jose Luis Castillo, daughter Josie E. Barraza, son David Espalin Jr and daughter Stephany L. Ramirez. Additionally, she is loved by her seven grandchildren: Jaide Angela Celeste Castillo, Alexzandra Marisa Fierro Castillo, Eva Isabella Fierro, Hayden Daniel Ramirez, David JC Espalin, Elizabeth Luz Linda Espalin, and Evelyn Amara Ramirez. We encourage all those who loved and cherished her to accompany us to celebrate her life and say our last goodbye. Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Homes located at 480 N. Resler. Visitation will be held on Wednesday 9/16/2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary at 6:30pm. Mass will be held on Thursday 9/17/2020 at 10:00am at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church.
