Manuel Bustillos

March 13, 1941 — August 31, 2020

Manuel “Manny” Bustillos, 79, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020, with his two sons at his side in his hometown of El Paso, Texas. Manny was born in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico on March 13, 1941, and was preceded in death by his parents Fermin Garcia and Guadalupe Bustillos Garcia and his wife Alicia Burton Bustillos. In 1963, Manny began his lifetime career in the restaurant industry in El Paso, Texas, where he managed La Hacienda Restaurant. In 1994, he left La Hacienda after thirty plus years of service to the El Paso and University of Texas at El Paso communities. Not only did Manny leave La Hacienda, but countless other waiters followed him to Amigos Restaurant where he managed there until his retirement in March 2019. Manny touched countless of lives throughout his career to include some well-known El Paso figures such as Don “The Bear” Haskins, longtime El Paso Mayor Jonathan W. Rogers, former World Champion Kickboxer Cliff “Magic” Thomas, and former University of Texas at El Paso President Dr. Diana Natalicio. Regular customers at La Hacienda probably remember when Mayor Rogers would often go and eat with Manny. They would have the customers vote on who wore the nicest guayabera. Manny became a legend known as the loveable “Jokester” waiter who would play coin tricks, card tricks, and squirt fake Ketchup on his guests…almost giving elderly ladies in their Sunday best heart attacks. Manny had such a comforting smile and gave all who came to know him the best hugs. His service to his customers was second to none, and he would very often hold the hands of his clients to their tables and seat them accordingly as a true gentleman should. Apart from managing these restaurants, Manny truly enjoyed spending time with his family and also with friends while sipping back a few of his favorite Coors Light brewskis. At times though, the beers did catch up to him, and he would start crooning out some of his favorite songs by his doppelganger, Pedro Infante. Manny would get so into his singing that he would at times cry and would love to tell his boys to “Shut-up” as they egged him on. He had a love for many things to include butterfly gazing and collecting, coin collecting, classic cars and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys every chance he got. Manny shared his affirmations with his grandkids, and many of them took to his passions and have made them their own because of grandpa.
