Our loving friend, aunt, godmother, grandmother, wife, and mother passed on all too quickly on Monday, July 2. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfonso Velez, and several brothers and sisters. In her 92 years of life, she was a tree of strength for her family, establishing roots that have flourished into a family of five daughters: Olga Miranda, Barbara Ramirez, Blanca Garcia, Margie Vasquez and Rebecca Cruz; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren. She was a devout member of Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was also a working mother, employed by McKesson Pharmaceuticals for over 25 years. However, numbers do her life little justice. Anyone who knew her, knew a woman who lived life to its fullest and on her own terms. We remember her singing, often joining Grandpa’s band for a few songs, and being the life of any party, arriving in her signature colorful outfit and beautiful dangling earrings. Her door was always open to visitors where they might enjoy a glass of her cinnamon iced tea or her greatest art, her cooking. We will all remember our favorite dish and savor it forever in our hearts. Her wisdom was evident in every conversation where the listener enjoyed her full attention and often witty commentary. Even as she began forgetting some of her daily tasks, her memories of her family, her youth, and her experiences remained vivid to share. And yet, even this description of her life cannot begin to explain who she was. Her life was unique because of her stubborn streak; her life was all her own, and we were all lucky enough to share in her vibrancy, her kindness and her love. With heavy hearts we let her go from this world, but we will hold her memory and her lesson about what it means to live life forever. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 pm, Friday, July 6, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 North Loop Dr. with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be at 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church, 4700 Delta Dr. Interment to follow at Evergreen Alameda Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Americas.
