Maria L Chavira " Nina"

Maria Lopez Chavira “NINA”, was called to Heaven and entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior on August 1, 2018 at the age of 86. Born March 20, 1932 in El Paso Texas, she was well known as one of the “Montoya Legends”. She is preceded in death by parents Faustino Lopez and Leonor Lerma Lopez, her brothers; Jesus, Jose, Manuel and Justino Lopez. She is survived by her husband Pedro Chavira, they lived a humble and loving life together of 42 years on Hillview Av. Her beloved Sister Margaret “Mague” Medina whom she loved and adored with all her heart, and many nieces and nephews she cared for and loved as if they were her own. Niece “Pancha” is especially honored and grateful to have shared life as a daughter to her. Nina was an admirable person with many unforgettable memories that we are all thankful to be apart of. She retired from the El Paso Public Schools as Head Cook and was very proud of the years she provided for the kids. She was especially known for her delicious enchiladas as she made sure to always give a little extra to her nieces and nephews as they went thru the lunch line. She will always be remembered by her big smile, always wanting to feed you as you came thru her door, and the many family gatherings held at her house, she always had a lot of love for everyone. She holds a special place in hearts of many and forever will be missed. We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Special thanks to Juanita Pena for always being there for the family, Lorena Banuelos Oakerson/Hospice of El Paso for the great care she provided, and to her nieces and nephews and other family members that cared for her in her time of need. Services honoring Nina will be held Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 9p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home West, 480 N. Resler. Funeral Mass will take place Friday, August 10th at 10:30 a.m. at San Francisco de Assisi Catholic Church, 5750 Doniphan Dr. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Santa Teresa, NM.
