María de Jesús Olivas Douglass left this world to meet Our Lord on August 29, 2017. Our sweet “Chita” graduated from the former St. Joseph Academy in 1955. She worked as a legal secretary before deciding to pursue a teaching degree at UTEP. A life-long learner, she followed her Bachelor’s degree with a Master’s degree and, after a successful career as a teacher, she qualified as an interpreter during her “retirement” and brought her talents to serve the courts and conferences.
All throughout her life, Chita had the unwavering ability to make life-long friends. She kept in-. touch with so many people she routinely exhausted her monthly 1,000-minute calling plan (by the third week!). Chita is survived by her adoring husband, John David, her brothers and their families, Enrique (Martha, Enrique, Patricia, and Gabriela), Sergio (Bárbara, Sergio, Marco, Bárbara), her sons Mario (Shannon), Javier (Shari), stepdaughters Cecilia (Raúl) and María (Roddy), goddaughter Cecilia (Eugenio, Ana Cecilia, Tanya, Beatriz and Eugenio) and the joys of her life, her grandchildren, David, Sophia, Olivia, Amelia, Mateo, Raulito, Brianna, Justy and Jharett.
