Martin Nathan Colton

March 24, 1930 — September 20, 2018

Martin (Marty) Colton - 1930-2018 Martin (Marty) Colton - 1930-2018 Tears are falling on paper as we write to describe the life and death of Martin (Marty) Colton who died Thursday evening in El Paso, Texas. Marty was first and foremost a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Marty was married to Bonnie Colton for over 54 years and was the loving father to Harry (Mary) Levy, Marc (Debbie) Levy, Shari (Mike) Delaney, Robert (Barbara) Levy and Brian (Larisa) Colton and he was the extremely proud grandfather (Papa) of Deborah, Kelly (David), Jake (Allison), Seth (Michelle), Shea (Alyssa), Avishai, Eliana, Raychel, Mecah, Dylan, Akiva, Abby and Ben. He was also the extraordinarily proud great grandfather of Nina, Ziva, Maya, Colton, Ezri, and Lila. He was also devoted to Bonnie's sister and brother in law Charlene and Jerry Spielvogel and he was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Fred (Jean) and Ery (Bev). Marty was born in 1930 to Michael and Gittel Colton in Omaha, Nebraska. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and through the Army he found his way to El Paso, Texas where he moved in the early 1960s to join the accounting firm of Lauterbach, Borschow & Company. He left that firm to jointly form the firm of Lipson, Cox and Colton which later became Cox, Colton, Starr and Stoner and is now known as Pena, Briones, McDaniel & Co. Marty was also a dedicated leader in the El Paso Jewish Community. Even though he suffered from the terrible rampages of Alzheimer's through the last 10 years, he never lost his wonderful smile and sweet disposition which was a hallmark of his life. He was always ready with a joke or funny comment to make everyone around him smile and feel at ease. Dad, as you now are traveling on your final journey, we know that even though you are alone, you will make sure everything is well organized - in fact, you will be the final Lone Arranger (one of Dad's favorite jokes). The family wishes to thank Dr. Ariana Bender and her staff and the staff of the Legacy at Cimarron for the loving care given to Marty. We also want to thank Hospice of El Paso for their end of life care. Donations in Marty's memory may be made to Temple Mount Sinai, 4408 N. Stanton, 79902; the Jewish Federation of Greater El Paso, 7110 N. Mesa, 79912, or the Alzheimer's Association West Texas Chapter, 110 Mesa Park Dr. #250, 79912. The funeral will be Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Temple Mount Sinai Cemetery, Rabbi Ben Zeidman officiating. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home West.
