With continued sorrow we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Erland Koivisto, 48, on July 21, 2020. As Covid restrictions have lifted we will celebrate his life on Saturday, July 17, 2021. Visitation 9:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, North Loop. Service at 9:30 a.m. Interment immediately following at Evergreen East. Born in Tacoma, Washington to Jorma K. Koivisto (deceased) and Delphine (Wale) Koivisto, the youngest of four siblings, he came to El Paso at 2 years old and adopted the desert as home. Left to cherish his memory are his mother Delphine, his sisters Lynn (David) Sanchez, Karen (Matthew) Pryor, and Sonja Koivisto; his nieces and nephews Adrianna (Mark) Gonzalez, April (Robert) Gates, Geoffrey, Emily, and DJ Sanchez, Dylan, Hayley, and Cheyann Pryor, Harlan Shaw and grandniece Nayeli and grandnephew Rory, along with family spread through England, Finland and Sweden. Additionally he has many cherished friends and co-workers that were beloved by him. Michael was a loyal, kind, generous, funny soul that lived life on his own terms. He had an eclectic assortment of interests and work, but his greatest passion was his family and friends. We were blessed by his whole-hearted love and will profoundly miss him.
