Morton Lee Johnston

September 30, 1937 — November 23, 2020

Morton Lee Johnston (Bob), husband, dad, stepdad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away November 23, 2020 of COVID-19. Bob was born in Superior, Wisconsin on September 30, 1937, a son of the late Mort and Marion (Sims) Johnston. The family moved to Milltown, Wisconsin where he graduated from Milltown High School in 1955 and then attended Dana College. In 1957, Bob served our country as a member of the 8th U.S. Army Honor Guard in Korea. Upon return, Bob completed his studies at Northwestern Technical Institute and became a mechanical draftsman for Waldorf Paper Corporation in St Paul, Minnesota. Unable to sit at a desk all day, Bob left Waldorf and joined the Edina, Minnesota Fire Department where he served as an Engine Driver until 1975. Bob had an entrepreneurial spirit. His early business focused on pool services which prompted his family to move to Houston, Texas. In Texas, he started Custom Weather Products, wherein he was a distributer and contractor for Alcoa Building Products. He operated this business until his death. Bob was a competitive trap, skeet and sporting clay shooter and an avid hunter. He traveled through the US competing and winning many awards. He was a regular at the gun club and could be found after rounds of shooting trap, drinking a beer at the bar with his buddies. If hunting season was open, Bob was hunting. He enjoyed hunting bear, deer, duck, elk, moose, rabbit, and squirrel, and therefore was out in the fields a good chunk of the year. He went on his final hunting trip with his friends mid-October where they camped, rode four-wheelers and hunted squirrels. Bob loved people. He never met a person that remained a stranger for long. He would strike up conversations with anyone, anywhere, and leave the conversation with a new life friend. Bob is survived by his wife Dolores; his children: Fay Wood (David), Pamela Barnes (Robert), and Michael (Lee); step children: Tannya Blanco (Jaime), and Liliana Orellana; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister: Gail McKenzie (Dale); nieces and nephews and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George. Bob was full of life, and lived a full, eventful life on his terms. However, he was taken too soon by this wretched virus. Please, wear a mask to protect yourself and those you love. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
