Nancy Elizabeth Pindar

October 15, 1931 — March 6, 2018

Nancy Elizabeth Beardmore Pindar, age 86, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 after a battle with cancer. Nancy was born on October 15, 1931 in Wheeling, WV to Oliver R Beardmore and Mary Virginia Kindelberger. She was the third of four children. Her siblings are Oliver West Beardmore (Barbara), Jean Beardmore Sweetland (Charles, deceased) and Glenn Frank Beardmore (deceased) (Monna). Nancy graduated from West High School in Rochester, NY, in June 1949, and from Genesee Junior College in Lima, NY, in May 1951, where she earned her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. While in the hospital after suffering a broken leg in a skiing accident, Nancy met her husband-to-be, Wellington John Pindar, Jr.. The two were married on January 16th, 1965, at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. Within a couple of months, Well accepted a position as an orthopedic surgeon and the newlyweds moved to El Paso. The family grew to include three children, Emily Gail Pindar Matheny, Suzanne Elizabeth Pindar and Wellington John Pindar, III. When the kids started school, Nancy enjoyed volunteering in their classes and worked for many years as a room mother. She also served in various positions in the Western Hills Elementary School PTA (including one term as president) and the Morehead Jr High PTO. She was an eager supporter of her children in their many interests and cheered at countless track meets, orchestra concerts, horse shows, Girl Scout activities, piano and tap dancing recitals. Nancy was an avid reader which led her to be a long time volunteer with the El Paso Public Library’s Book Mark. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Nancy spent a great deal of time with the El Paso Medical Auxiliary where she served in many capacities including president for two terms. She also served on the editorial board for El Paso Physician magazine. Other interests included calligraphy, flower arranging, and cake decorating at which she was very talented. Nancy also enjoyed serving as part of her church community. She had been a member of University Presbyterian Church since 1965 and over the years had taught Sunday school, helped with Vacation Bible School, faithfully driven for Drive-a-Meal, and had been one of the “BINGO ladies” for over 18 years. In more recent years, time with UPC members included Wednesday breakfast club, “lunch bunch”, and playing Mexican Train on Game Day. Over the years Nancy enjoyed traveling with her family. Their family trips took her all over the world to see things like the opera house in Australia, the animals of the Galapagos Islands, the ruins of Machu Picchu, the grandeur of Paris, through the Panama Canal, north of the Arctic Circle, and the Northern Lights viewed from Churchill, Canada. Her favorite vacation spot, however, was the Sandpiper Hotel in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida where the family would meet up with her parents and sister/brother-in-law for rest and relaxation with plenty of time to stroll on the beach. Nancy’s presence will be sorely missed as we walk through the days ahead without her. In lieu of flowers we ask that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or another charity of your choice. Burial will be at Ft. Bliss Cemetery at a later date.
