ROSENDA OLIVAS

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rosenda “Chenda” Olivas, passed away and went to be with her Lord on December 29, 2020 at the age of 90. Born in El Paso, Texas on March 1, 1930, she attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Bowie High School. Rosenda was married to Jesus (preceded) for 63 years. She was a faithful Catholic and she instilled this faith in all her children and grandchildren. She believed in and practiced the Catholic faith so much so she ensured that all her children received a Catholic school education. She was very proud all her children graduated from college. She was a full-time mom and cared for several of her grandchildren during their pre-school years and after school. She volunteered at her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ school as well as at her parish. Most recently she was a member of the Arts & Crafts ministry at Corpus Christi Church. She was a member of the America Needs Fatima Organization. She supported the Conventual Franciscan Friars Province of Our Lady of Consolation, Inc. in Indiana and the St. Labre Indian School at Ashland, Montana which serves Native American children. At one time she and her husband were also members of the Bowie Alumni Association. Proud mother of five surviving children: Frank (Kathi) Olivas, David (Gloria) Olivas, Sylvia (Victor) Villagrana, Cynthia Garcia and Martha (Jorge) Matta. She had eight grandchildren: Richard, Katie, Sarah, Samuel, Elizabeth (Sebastian), Jorge, Jennifer and Nicole and six great grandchildren: Jordan, Isabella, Jack, Eva, Mack and Ace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, Monday, January 11, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 North Loop Dr. with a rosary at 11:00 am and prayer service following. Due to the pandemic only 20 guests permitted at rosary and prayer service. Interment will follow at 12:15 pm at Mount Carmel Cemetery for immediate family only due to pandemic restrictions.
