Ramiro Alvarado, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2018.
Ramiro was born in El Paso, TX on April 19, 1927. Upon leaving high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman first class aboard the USS Missouri during WWII. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Esperanza Zuloaga.
Ramiro enjoyed a 36-year career in the civil service at Ft. Bliss and retired as a management analyst in 1984. He enjoyed rebuilding cars and spent many hours in his garage tinkering with his toys. He also loved spending time with his family, taking them on exciting road trips near and far. Ramiro had an incredible sense of humor and loved making people laugh! He never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a firm handshake and genuine smile.
Ramiro was a Life Member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas, 32nd degree Master Mason and Past Master of Omar N. Bradley Lodge No. 1028. He was also an active member of the El Maida Shrine Temple and spent many years in the Shrine Motor Patrol. In addition, he delighted in training young Masons and raising money for the Shriners Hospital.
Ramiro is preceded in death by his loving wife, Esperanza; brother, Arnulfo Alvarado; sisters, Margaret Bell, Elvira Jaquez, Celia Ahumada and Bertha Terrell. He is survived by his brother Alfredo (Ruth) Alvarado, and sisters, Hortencia Sierra and Ofelia Placencia; sons, Ray (Karen), Tony (Brenda), Mark, Andrew (Carol) and Phillip (Philip Laden); grandchildren, Christine (Kelly) MacCarroll, Elizabeth (Jason) Hopkins, Alyssa (Michael) Smith; Jason, Steven, Wesley, Phillip and Michelle Alvarado; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Madeline MacCarroll and Saoirse Hopkins; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Vigil/Rosary will begin at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Rd. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
